Belgium vs. Armenia 2:0

On October 11 Armenia National Team played its third match within the frames of World Cup 2010 Qualification round group stage at Brussels “Roi Baudouin” stadium. The rival was Belgium this time.

Despite the fact that some leading players of both teams were absent with different reasons the match passed tensely enough. The Armenian Squad started the match actively playing in the rival’s field mostly. Belgium was counterattacking at first minutes and one of those counterattacks completed with goal into Roman Berezovsky’s net on the 21st minute. Taking the opportunity of our defense uncoordinated actions FC Brugge forward Wesley Sonck scored from close distance leaving no chances for our goalkeeper. A few minutes later Arman Karamyan could equalize the score but he missed his chance. It seemed that the teams were going to halftime with Belgium minimal advantage but seven minutes before halftime FC Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini took the opportunity of our defenders’ mistake and doubled the score forcing Roman Berezovsky to pull out the ball from his own goals.

The second half passed as equals. The host and the visiting teams both missed the chances to score.
This was the 5th match between the two National Teams in history and Armenia couldn’t succeed in scoring a goal against Belgium the 5th time in a row. Besides, our team suffered the third defeat in a row within the frames of World Cup 2010 Qualification round group stage.
