Razmik Grigoryan on the first official victory against FYR Macedonia
On this day, 27 years ago, Armenian national team won in an away match against FYR Macedonia. This was the first ever victory in official matches for Armenia. One of the goalscorers - Razmik Grigoryan remembers his goal, speaks about the atmosphere after the match and mentions the significance of Ashot Khachatryan in the match.
" I remembet the match as if it was today. I had just recovered from the injury and we had an agreement with the head coach Samvel Darbinyan, that I will play about 60 minutes. Meanwhile, the ball was always in the field and there was no pause. At that moment, on the 61st minute, I got a pass from Armen Shahgeldyan, transferred the ball from my rigth foot to the left and shot. The goal was really very impressive.
In the end of the match the macedonians were awarded a penalty, but Armen Petrosyan saved it, while Ashot Khachatryan, one of the most experienced players, managed to kick away the ball savind a victory for us.
That was the first ever victory in official matches for our team. We were sorry, that the match was not played in Yerevan, in front od our fans, becasue those were the times, when thousands of fans were gathering in Hrazdan stadium to cheer for us. Anyway, we were very happy to win, the atmosphere in the dressing room was unbelievable.
