The Roman Berezovsky youth football tournament took place in Armavir

Mass football 19.10.2026 10:20

A youth football tournament named after Roman Berezovsky, the former goalkeeper of the Armenia national team, was held in the Armavir region. In keeping with tradition, the final matches are hosted in the home region of the previous year’s winning team. In 2025, the trophy was won by the team from Sard arapat Secondary School.

Now expanding year after year, this sporting event has brought together young footballers from different regions of Armenia for the fourth time. This year, the tournament featured the regional winners of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) School Championship in the Under-12 category, with 11 school teams representing 10 regions of Armenia and Yerevan. This year’s trophy was claimed by the team from Goris.

Arthur Sahakyan, Advisor to the FFA President and Head of the Mass and Amateur Football Department, emphasized the importance of organizing such tournaments.

“We attach great importance to holding events of this kind, as they help promote grassroots football among children and identify new talent. At the same time, this tournament is a tribute to our legendary footballer, Roman Berezovsky,” Sahakyan stressed.

Roman Berezovsky also spoke about the tournament’s objectives and what young athletes need to do to progress.

“The aim of the tournament is to bring children together through football, help them make new friends, and build strong connections. At the same time, we hope to discover talented players who will achieve success in sport in the future. To do that, it is important to be dedicated to football, fight until the very end, believe in your abilities, and work tirelessly to make your dreams come true,” said the former Armenia national team goalkeeper.

The tournament’s special guest was Denis Glushakov, the former midfielder of the Russian national team and Moscow’s Spartak.

“I held a coaching clinic for the boys, showing them a variety of drills and exercises, and then joined them on the pitch myself. Although they are not professionals yet, there are technically skilled players with great potential among them. My advice is simple: to succeed in top-level football, they need to spend as much time as possible on the pitch and train hard. Without hard work and dedicated training, nothing will come of it,” Glushakov said.
