Official statement by the Vice President of the Football Federation of Armenia, Armen Nikoghosyan

The official statement by Armen Nikoghosyan, Vice President of the Football Federation of Armenia and member of the Executive Committee, is presented below:

“Dear football community,

At the end of last year’s FFA assembly, I announced that I would not be running in the 2026 Executive Committee elections and would conclude my work as Vice President of the Football Federation of Armenia. However, during this period, events took place that led me to make certain adjustments to that decision.

First, the Armenia national futsal team participated in the group stage of the UEFA Futsal Championship, which was an unprecedented achievement for Armenian sports. The pride that our country is finally standing alongside Europe’s leading teams, as well as the emotions I experienced during those days, I wish to all sports fans.

Then came an even more important and, for many, unbelievable event: our country, together with Georgia, was granted the right to host the second-largest tournament in the world in terms of significance — the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup final tournament. In truth, I had not even dreamed that during my tenure I would be directly involved in such events that had once seemed unattainable. But now this is reality; we must pursue new goals, and I will be involved in the preparatory work for organizing this tournament. Therefore, I announce my resignation from the position of Vice President of the FFA and from membership in the Executive Committee.

I would like to thank my colleagues for our joint work. Acknowledging that there have been both successes and failures, I ask everyone for forgiveness. In many cases I did not agree with the decisions made, but I was always guided by the interests of Armenian football, prioritizing the elimination of patronage and corruption. I can state that the current leadership of the FFA has fully eradicated these phenomena, and this is now an irreversible reality. I am confident that in the near future we will also see the rise of the national team, as all necessary conditions have been created for it.

I wish our country strong and unshakable peace, and Armenian sports and football new victories.
