UEFA Nations League․ Armenia defeat Latvia

The Armenia national team kicked off its 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign with a victory over Latvia.

In the match played at the Republican Stadium, Yegishe Melikyan’s side scored twice without reply. Georgi Harutyunyan opened the scoring in the 31st minute, while Artur Gharibyan doubled Armenia’s lead in the 75th minute, becoming the youngest player to score for Armenia in the history of the UEFA Nations League. Gharibyan found the back of the net at the age of 20 years and 58 days. He surpassed the previous record held by Artur Kartashyan, who scored against Gibraltar on November 16, 2018, at the age of 21 years and 312 days.

Argishti Petrosyan and Erik Simonyan also made their international debuts for the national team. Armenia will play their second Group C2 match on September 28, hosting Montenegro.
